Lots of things are not getting the headlines these days. Lipstick on a pig does not qualify. One thing not getting the headline is the environment. Talk about the need for long range planning. Talk about most of Europe being sensitive to the subject and the U. S. not able decide to move off the dime. Talk about a significant amount of California’s pollution coming from China. This is a train wreck in the making. It is a classic example of the political process being years behind technology. The election of a new President gives us a new opportunity torethink this critical issue. Environment

If the economy recovers, if we are out of Iraq by 2010/2011, and if health care can be provided to forty-seven million uninsured individuals, it’s still protecting the world environment from global warming and enhancing and providing the greening of our economy and that of the world. Oh, the Economy
October 15, 2008So, the U.S.savings rate has gone negative. Hum. I heard that people are/were using their homes as ATMs. Hum. Maybe they went out to buy large boats! OK, there are some speculators out there that should get their knuckles wrapped. More likely, people were desperately trying to still fulfill their responsibilities to their children’s education in an environment of reduced 401k value and reduced real income. In effect, people were pushing out their own retirement into what looks to be a rather gloomy future. The post war (WWII) wave of prosperity seemingly gone along with the offshore jobs. Oh yea, the world economy. I’m getting sick writing this about this – the great American dream gone sour. But wait, the stock market just bounced back! WOW! Get this – we have got to stop looking at short term trends. In real terms, the stock market is still trying to catch up from 9/11! Back to the ATM. Some say buyer beware. Not good enough under these circumstances. The common man needs help. Business as usual in Washington and Wall Street must stop. A president can’t just tell us to go out and shop to cure things. It didn’t work. Golden parachutes don’t help either. Oh, by the way, it seems that only the military is at war! What we need is Real Change for a sustained period of time. We all need to be in this together as a team. Where is the courage of an F. D. R. or Abe when we need them? Will anybody lead? Can anybody lead? Hello. Can anybody hear me?? Hello?
